THE PROJECT AGRIFEED

AGRIFEED is the acronym of a cross-border cooperation project that is being implemented by two progressive enterprises of Greece (THRACIA IKE) and Bulgaria (SERBEST AGRIFEED Ltd). The two companies have decided to establish a strategic partnership as far as it concerns the exploitation of byproducts and the marketing of their products in dynamic markets.

The project AGRIFEED is funded under the 5th Call for Proposals «Grant scheme for supporting SMEs to grow and expand beyond local markets» of the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A “Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020”. The investment’s total budget is 515.000,00 €, of which 284.537,50 € is ERDF funds, 50.212,50 € national funds, and 180.250,00 € private funds.

THRAKIA IKE, in the context of the AGRIFEED project, replaced an existing 400 kg/hour bulk oil-mill line with a new two-stage one with a capacity of up to 3,000 kg olives per hour. The new line has been integrated with the addition of a packaging line in small packages (bottles and cans from 0.25 to 5 liters).

SERBEST AGRIFEED Ltd established an animal feed production plant consisting of a raw material reception and storage unit that produces in fields of 500 hectares in the same area (Silin Haskovo), a processing line, a packaging line, and finally a storage unit for finished products with a capacity of up to 1.000 tons per season.

The installation of state-of-the-art production lines as well as the procurement of modern supportive equipment and the application of Food Safety Management Systems according to ISO 22000/2018 will improve their position in the respective markets. In addition, the two enterprises will develop multiple business relationships spanning research and development (R&D), reprocessing, and trading.
